6 Tips To Help Your Toddler Increase His Vocbulary

By: Kids Activity Calendar

More than anyone, you as a mom know your young child is curious about everything they see and touch. No matter what object they point to in your home, they either want to touch it or put it into their mouths.

Here are 6 tips to help your child learn about the world around him.

• When giving your child a bath, you may have a rubber ducky or toy boat for your child to play with. Say the word.
• Point to an object in your home and repeat what it is, then ask your child to say the word.
• Babies love pets; point to your dog or cat; say the word and have your child repeat the word and the name of the pet as well.
• Use books as tools with which you can point to different shapes, whether it is animal, vegetable, or mineral.
• On a warm summer’s day, take your child outside and point to trees and flowers and repeatedly say what they are.
• Take your child to the park and point out the swings, benches and other objects.

When you take your child to the supermarket, point out the variety of items available. From big square boxes to round shapes, point to these objects and let your child know what they are. When your child points to an object, as they most likely will do in a sizable supermarket, tell your child what it is. In addition, by walking around your home you child will naturally point to objects, so be ready to say the word over and over again.

You can even make a game out of it. Using the names of objects on any particular day, think up a rhyme in which all the names of the shapes can be used.

Using these tips to help your child learn the difference between the shapes will also help him to learn about the world around him.
