Many Moms and Dads have a home based business while raising their children at the same time. Any parent can do it. Here are some ways you can make it work.

A. A designated work area.

This is an area that is for work only, other distractions should be removed. It should contain all the items you need for your home office so that you can quickly access everything you need maximizing the time you have available. All other items should be removed so you can concentrate on one thing, your business.

B. Managing your time is a prime factor in a successful home business.

Time management is important in any business and for a stay at home moms or dads it is vital if you want to succeed. Most parents working from home do not have large time slots throughout the day they can devote to their home business so they must organize their time into manageable chunks. Having a plan ready for the time you have available will boost your production level much higher. Preplanning is essential to being productive.

C. Your best time might be when everyone else is sleeping.

Often parents find they have to many distractions during the day. There may be phone calls that have to be made while other parents and friends are also calling you. Household chores and problems can consume most of their free time and of course the children need your attention.

Nap time and bedtime can be the most productive periods. Many stay at home parents will get up much earlier than their family and work their business while everyone else is sleeping. This often allows them to work without the daily interruptions of phone calls and daily chores. For those who can sleep in their work can be done later at night after the kids have been put to sleep affording them the same luxuries as working early.

D. Your family must always be your priority.

Every parent has to have priorities and as much as they want their business to succeed their children must always come first. After all family must always come before work. If you find you can not focus on your family when you know you need to it is time to take a good look at what you are doing and readjust your time so your families needs are met.

It is far easier to adjust your work schedule than it is to solve family problems caused by your current schedule. If you must put off work for a short time to make sure your home is healthy then that is what you must do, work will always be there.

E. Do you need outside help?

If you find your home business is taking more time than you have available it may be time to look for some help with your children. Many parents hold full time jobs and have to put their kids in day care or after school programs. As a work at home parent you may need to do the same thing.

Make a resource list of who is available. It may be a local pre-school, a close friend or another parent in your neighborhood who has a home based day care. Then decide if you must use them full time or part time. Often you will only need them for a few hours a day and as your business grows you may need them fulltime.

F. Possibly your most valuable asset, taking time off.

If you truly want to be successful you need to have time off away from work. Many people who have attained a measure of success fail to take the time to enjoy it. But it is something you must do. Set business hours and stick to them. It will give you time to truly enjoy your family and it will give them time to enjoy you.

A home business offers the owner much more time with their children and family and allows them the freedom they need to accomplish their life's goals. Most parents whether it is a mom or dad want to be successful. That success is wanted in both their family and business lives. The stay at home parent has the luxury of accomplishing both. Understanding this and reflecting on it can give you the greatest feeling of true accomplishment you can have.
