Work is a stressful experience and we simply have to learn how to cope with that. Here's how it is done. Do not bring your home problems to work. Quit worrying about your kids or wife when you're at work - you can't help them right now, but you can worse your own situation (and their as well!) if your performance gets down. This is the key to keep your work-related stress in check - do not add anything to it. In case you feel stressed about other people - your workmates or customers - try to keep your contacts purely professional. You don't have to become their best buddy, you only have to do business. Also, do not pay too much attention to the way they react to you and your actions as long as you handle your duties to the best of your abilities. Remember that different jobs have their own kinds of stress that should be dealt with in different ways. For example, if you run your own business venture, the stress usually comes from not knowing if you were right or from fear of the unknown. If you work for a company, the main reason of stress is your team and/or your boss. Some jobs, like being a doctor, are known to require a lot of responsibility, others like a bodyguard or policeman are dangerous to one's health. Do not believe in universal methods that can get rid of stress regardless of the kind of work you do. The everyday practice however, shows that most of the problems are caused by overlapping hierarchies or poor management. The best source of stress is receiving two contradictory requests at the same time. Coping with that can be difficult, but the best and most effective solution is to talk with your boss and try to work it out together. In most situations this will help both solve the problem and take some responsibility from you. The last type of work-related problems is stress coming from lack of work. Being unemployed is one of the best ways to start feeling worthless and depressed. Such feelings are natural and can't be avoided in any other way than finding a job. Just remember that being stressed won't help you find a job even a little bit, so do your bes to relax before you start looking for it. The same is true for the job you got, but have no prior experience in things you're going to do. The answer is the same: you can't just anything about it, but it will pass with the time, so just relax a bit and do your best.
