Presell Pages Can Make Affiliate Programs Pay Off

By: Jeff Alderson

One would be hard pressed to find a website or blog owner who didn't want to make a little money for their efforts. On-site advertising, affiliate programs and product sales can be the answer. Unfortunately, all of these money-making prospects require visitors to physically do something for the site owner to realize a return.

In most cases, affiliate programs in particular, demand that visitors on the referring site click on a link and follow it through to another website. The affiliate site then might even require an outright purchase or some other action to take place before a single penny is earned. Raising the chances for success in this actually happening often falls on the referring site's ability to capture readers' attention with ads and affiliate program links.

No one would argue the fact that affiliate programs can pay off. They, unfortunately, don't always do so. The simple truth is that straight linking leaves the final "sale" up to the affiliate program's site. Should that site not do its job correctly, a referring site's likelihood of realizing revenue tends to go away.

Fortunately, there are some things website and blog owners can do to increase their money-making chances. Touting products or services on the referring site through presell pages is one of the most effective ways to go. These special pages do nothing more than provide information about the product or service. They are hosted within the referring site, and simply are designed to help close a sale or prompt an action before a reader leaves. Rather than place affiliate links in blog articles, chat forums, ads or other spots on a site, presell pages are the ones that offer them.

Beyond helping "sell" readers on affiliate promotions, presell pages tend to deliver some other benefits, as well. These pages can even produce revenue from other sources. This often happens since presell pages have great ability to pull search engine traffic into a site. This occurs because presell pages tend to be content and keyword rich while being focused on a particular product or service. As a result, they can attain good search engine ranking while boosting potential traffic and possible revenue.

Two other major perks of using these pages instead of sending traffic directly to affiliate sites exist. If the presell page or pages are well written, relevant and offer frank information about the product or service in question, trust can be built. This trust can extend to the site as a whole. It is even possible to capitalize on the trust a site already has with its followers when presell pages are added. The other benefit is that these pages are much better to leave as links in blog posts, chat forums, e-mails and other online locations. Rather than spamming affiliate links, using presell page links just looks more professional. Another benefit is the ability to link to these pages in future content. They create fantastic reference points for related content.

Building presell pages to promote affiliate products is fairly simple. All that's really necessary is creating a new page for a site, drafting copy about the product or service and ensuring that links to these pages are noticeable on the referring site. A lot of site owners create suggestion or recommendation sections or simply make up their own ads to get readers to check out their presell pages.

It is fairly important to follow a few guidelines when creating these pages. The biggest thing to do is to refrain from any hard sell tactics. Honesty and balance are important. Try to include the affiliate link several times in the text, but make sure not to sidetrack readers with links to other products, services or even internal pages. Cloaking of links can help, but it's not always necessary. The copy itself should be easy to read, fairly brief and simple to digest. Be certain readers get the "so what" factor covered. They need to know why the product or service should be important to them.

Presell pages are not "required" to earn money from affiliate programs. They can boost chances for income potential, however. When site owners carefully review and understand the products and services they tout on their sites, informative presell pages can make a really big difference in enticing visitors to respond and act.
